OTD: Blackhawks Win Game 7 In Anaheim!
On May 30th, 2015, the Blackhawks dominated a road game 7 from start to finish, defeating the Anaheim Ducks with a final score of 5-3. This series as a whole was exhilarating from start to finish. There were numerous points in the series where you had to wonder if this was it for the Hawks. But, as they always seemed to do, the Blackhawks showed their resiliency and prevailed to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. Let's dig into some of the action from that thrilling game 7.
Captain Jonathan Toews led off the scoring for the evening, hammering a rebound shot past Fredrick Anderson to the back of the net just 2:23 into the game. Toews scored his second goal of the night, this time on the power play, with a snipe from the top of the circle.
The Blackhawks were off and running from there. Brandon Saad scored the Hawks' third goal of the night came early in the 2nd period on a beautiful feed from Patrick Kane to Brandon Saad for the back door tap in just 1:18 into the period. Marian Hossa scored minutes later in a net mouth scramble off a Brad Richards pass to make it a 4-0 game.
Ryan Kesler scored in the waning moments of the 2nd period for the Ducks, getting them on a board, but ultimately not back in the game. Corey Perry scored the Ducks 2nd goal of the game with 8:24 left in the 3rd period, which gave the Ducks one last chance to make a push. Brent Seabrook buried one home on the Power Play with a booming slapper from the point to put the game out of reach and the rest is history.
Corey Crawford was magnificent, making 35 saves on 38 shots faced. Crawford made multiple ten bell saves on his way to slamming the door on the Ducks. Patrick Kane tallied 3 assists and the Blackhawks defense rose to the challenge to stifle the Ducks massive pushes to try to even up the score. The Blackhawks were now on their way to their 3rd Stanley Cup Final appearance in the previous 6 seasons and putting the finish touches on the beginning of a dynasty.
