The Chicago sports world is mourning today, as Virginia Halas McCaskey has passed away. The Blackhawks organization sent a heartfelt statement to the Sports World today.

The Chicago Bears lost their principal owner Virginia Halas McCaskey today at the age of 102.
McCaskey inherited the Bears organization from the founder, and original owner, her father George Halas in 1983.
Under McCaskey's leadership, they would win a Super Bowl only 3 years later in 1986 over the New England Patriots 46-10.
They wouldn't see another Super Bowl until 2007 against the Indianapolis Colts, where they lost by 12 points.
Halas's family has owned the Bears franchise since 1921 when they were named the Decatur-Staley's.
Per Wikipedia.
The franchise has been in the hands of the Halas-McCaskey family since George Halas acquired the then-Decatur Staleys from A. E. Staley and moved the team to Chicago in 1921

The Sports World will mourn such a monumental figure, as she's seen the organization grow from the age of 8 and would see it through till the end.
Before she took over the team in 1983, her father would oversee the hiring of Mike Ditka, and the team would win an NFL Championship at the end of the 1985 season.
That was the year the Bears became a media phenomenon.
McCaskey was known for her humanitarian nature and lived to do the right thing according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The sports world mourns her loss, and we send our deepest condolences to the Halas-McCaskey families, friends, and colleagues.
