In any NHL organization, many jobs go unrecognized as numerous people go about their business every day, performing their work and ensuring the operation runs smoothly. One particular role that carries an enormous amount of pressure is team security.
The men and women in these positions bear significant responsibility to ensure all players are safe from external threats while they go about their business.
The Blackhawks have a man who has been with the team for many years. Brian Higgins has been with the Blackhawks since 2010 and continues to oversee the team's security. On Saturday, Higgins was inducted into the Illinois Boxing/Martial Arts Hall of Fame, prompting Patrick Kane to fly in for the occasion to see his former head of security receive this award.
Much has been made about Patrick Kane over the past several weeks as he inches closer to a decision on which team he will sign with to begin his new chapter in the NHL.
The Blackhawks decided to move on from the Jonathan ToewsPatrick Kane era. General manager Kyle Davidson opted to trade him to the New York Rangers to fulfill his wish and attempt to win another Stanley Cup.
It remains to be seen which team he will land with, how much money and how many years the deal will involve. One thing is for sure: his days with the Blackhawks are behind him.
