Physical Altercation Breaks Out Between Referee and Player
With just a few seconds left between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning a scrum broke out when Mitch Marner was hauled down by an opponent.
Bunting took into consideration that his star player Marner isn't gonna be allowed to be pushed around like that, he approached Mikhail Sergachev and the two starting throwing shots at each other. A referee continued to step in to break things up and sort out who's going to the box, when another referee started to shove a Maple Leafs forward.
It wasn't just one shove, but multiple aggressive ones to the point where Michael Bunting of the Leafs could hardly stand..
You defiantly do not see that too often, and you have to wonder if an apology will be given or possibly the NHL to give the ref a slap on the wrist? This isn't the first time an altercation containing this referee and the Leafs has happened, in 2016, the referee was a former player and laid a nasty hit on a Leaf.
