Defenseman Ian Mitchell was called up from Rockford yesterday morning after returning from a left wrist injury only a week ago. He's expected to make his season debut for the Blackhawks tonight against the Bruins.
Mitchell has 5 points (2G, 3A) in 3 games for the IceHogs. In his most recent performance for Rockford, he earned two goals and two assists against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Last season, he earned 35 points (11G, 24A) in 57 AHL games.
Caleb Jones was made the healthy scratch and Alec Regula was sent down to Rockford, giving Mitchell a spot with Filip Roos in the third defensive pairing. We will also likely see him on the Blackhawks' first power play unit; his last two goals scored for the IceHogs were both on the power play. If Mitchell is able to keep up his momentum coming into tonight's game, then we might see him in the lineup a lot more this season.
