The Blackhawks were dealt some bad news today as defenseman Jake McCabe underwent successful cervical spine surgery to repair an injury he suffered. It has been reported that McCabe is expected to miss 2-3 months. If all goes right with his recovery and rehab, Blackhawks fans could expect to see McCabe return sometime in December, likely closer to the holidays.
You never want to see an injury to any athlete in a professional sport, but this is extremely tough for McCabe. He missed a big chunk of the 2021 season with Buffalo and worked extremely hard through rehab to come back and contribute to the Blackhawks. With McCabe on the shelf, there is now another spot open on the blueline for a defensive prospect to step in or a few defensive prospects to rotate in and out of. A big name to watch in camp is Vlasic and Mitchell, who are both poised to take the leap to the NHL at some point this season. We wish Jake McCabe the all the best in his rehab and hope to see him back fully healthy some time this season!
