One of the biggest fears as a parent is your child dying before you. Unfortunately for the parents of Ayr Centennials captain Eli Palfreyman that's tragically what happened.

Earlier this week Eli Palfreyman had tragically passed away during a hockey tournament in their local rink.

After entering the dressing room after the second period, Palfreyman collapsed to the floor. According to witnesses:

"The team's trainer was not immediately available as he was on the ice tending to an injured player when he heard shouts from the dressing room.

Palfreyman's mom, who is a nurse was in the stands. She made her way to the dressing room while the team's trainer started chest compressions. Resuscitation attempts were completed by medical staff, but they were unsuccessful. Palfreyman was transported to a local medical facility via ambulance with a "weak pulse",where he was later pronounced deceased. His passing came suddenly and an autopsy was completed determine cause of death, but no cause has been released at this time.

An obituary for Palfreyman provided the following information:

Palfreyman's parents took some time to speak to their son's team to share the following message :

He said the happiest day in Eli's life was when he was named captain, and he said you cannot take a shift off the rest of the year because Eli's spirit will be pushing you to do your best every shift, and I want to see it.

Hockey is a game. Life is bigger than hockey and do your best and remember, Eli will be there with you.
