During the live recorded visit, Monahan answered questions, and one particular answer proved just how excited Monahan is to have a fresh start in Montreal, after spending his whole NHL career in Calgary with the Flames.
Monahan was quoted as saying: "I feel like I'm 18 again and just starting in the league." The statement showed that Monahan is excited to begin his NHL career outside of Alberta.
The nine-year NHL veteran is feeling those first day with a new organization butterflies all over again.
The newly minted Canadien slipped on his Habs sweater for the first time, showing off his new number 91. He made the inaugural visit alongside his wife Brittany. Monahan cited that he isn't used to change, as he played his entire junior career with the same organization, following suit in the NHL with Calgary up until now. The 28-year-old will celebrate his 29th birthday on October 12, which just so happens to be the same night that the Canadiens play their 2022-23 season opener against the team Monahan grew up nearby - the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Monahan shared his thoughts about the season opener: "I can taste it. I'm almost getting goosebumps right now," enthused the new Habs center. "It's my birthday, it's the home opener and we're playing against the Leafs."
According to Monahan, he has set some pretty hefty goals for himself ahead of his first season with the Canadiens. "That's my goal, to be out there playing at a high level and doing what I can to help this team win hockey games. It would be a great gift to Britt and for my family. That's what I'm shooting for. Playing the Leafs on my birthday in the (season) opener at the Bell Centre is pretty crazy to think about," emphasized the three-time 30 goal scorer.
If training camp couldn't come soon enough to get a glimpse of potential lines and rookies looking to make the jump, now the thought of potential feel-good stories, much like Monahan's has cemented the feelings.
