Shane Wright was touted as the consensus number one pick for the 2022 NHL Draft since his time with the Dawn Mills Flyers.
And when he slipped to the Seattle Kraken at fifth overall, his look said more than words could. He glared at the Habs draft table, almost as if to say you messed up. A la Filip Zadina in 2018.
Since the draft, it's been rumoured that Wright has been a thorn in managements side, acting entitled.
Whether it holds any weight or not is irrelevant, because his first NHL game was disappointing. Wright accumulated six minutes in his NHL debut, and he followed that up as a healthy scratch for what could have been games on back-to-back nights.
The skeptics will say it's the attitude, or he isn't ready, but scouting isn't an exact science and player development is different in each organization.
A poor performance happens to each player at some point. They can't all be McDavid or Makar.
With the season still in it's early days, writing off a young player this early due to a healthy scratch could be a mistake.
