The hockey world is mourning the loss of one of the most recognizable faces in New York sports.

We are sad to announce the passing of Al Trautwig, who has suddenly passed away at the age of 68.
Al Trautwig was a popular sports broadcaster, primarily known for being a fixture at MSG Network, posting pre and post-game studio shows for the New York Yankees, New York Rangers and Knicks.
Trautwig last appeared on the network before taking an extended break and it was sadly reported that he had been suffering from cancer in 2024.
Many individuals in the sports world are showing their condolences and respects to Al Trautwig.
A few fellow colleagues of Al, Alan Hahn, Michael Kay and Bruce Beck, made a recent post regarding his passing as well:
«I'm sad to share the news that we lost a legendary voice in sports. But we lost a lot more than that.

He was not only a friend, but a mentor and a teacher. He was, personally, one of my biggest resources of support when I moved into this career.»
«Saddened to hear of the passing of Al Trautwig. He was a long-time colleague and friend. He was the legendary host of @MSGNetworks. He only needed a clipboard with a few notes and - would just go. When it came to extemporaneous speaking - he was among the best ever. RIP Al.»
« I have been leased to work with some amazing broadcasters but there was no one better than Al Trautwig. He was meant to be on the air. Smooth. Unflappable. Al patiently walked a young writer through growing pains on TV. His lessons were invaluable. He was part of the soundtrack of New York sports all those years on MSG. I will miss him. Gone too soon. RIP, my friend.»
Condolences to Al Trautwig's beloved family and friends. He will be extremely missed.
