The Blackhawks have many uncertainties ahead after these final four remaining games on the schedule. Between who is going to be the next head coach, to who they plan on taking in the NHL draft. Just a lot for the Blackhawks to think about. Another thing to add to that list of uncertainties is who all is going to be here next season? Who played well enough down the stretch to make Kyle Davidson and the coaching staff want them to be apart of the rebuild. One of those players in question is Dominik Kubalik. Lots of up and and downs for Kubalik this year, with the majority of his time unfortunately being on the downside of things.
He said at the start of the season that he was dealing with a pretty significant lack of confidence and didn't really feel like himself. And honestly based off his first two games of the season, both of which he scored in, it seemed to be just the opposite. But following those first two games, he would only score one in the next 19 games. Shocking numbers from a former 30 goal scorer. He's been back to decent form lately with 10 points in the last 9 games. But will it be enough for the Blackhawks to want to keep him through the rebuild?
Hopefully, the Blackhawks will look at this from an actual perspective of an organization that is rebuilding. If you are able to get Dominik Kubalik back on a cheap team friendly contract, you absolutely have to do that. Does Dominik Kubalik put the Blackhawks in the best position to win? No probably not. But that's not what rebuilding teams are about. And for this rebuild to work effectively, it has to be approached with a rebuilding mindset. So if the Blackhawks are able to get Kubalik back cheap, smart move. Otherwise, best to just move on.
