About a week ago, the Detroit Red Wings put young forward Filip Zadina on waivers. Zadina has been passed on by all 32 NHL teams, possibly due to his 2 year, $1,800,000 contract.
Well, that changed. Zadina has cleared waivers and is officially a free agent.
Filip Zadina is a 23-year-old winger and a former first round pick. Last season with Detroit, he had 3 goals and 4 assists, tallying up to 7 points in 30 games.
His point totals aren't the greatest, but back in 2019, he had 15 points in 28 games before he fractured his ankle. Ever since then, he hasn't been the same. Filip shows a lot of upside and Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson should take a chance on him, even if it's signing him to the league minimum. He'll most likely slide in as third line winger, so he'll be better to have there than Colin Blackwell.
It'll be an experiment in a rebuild, and if this works, Kyle will look like a genius.
