We have seen our fair share of injuries as of late in the NHL, especially when it comes to players getting hit in the face by pucks and or sticks, also John Carlson's recent injury trying to block a shot and he would take it to the ear, which he now requires facial restructure surgery.
Well the NHL is looking to be implementing some new rules that they believe is going to make the game safer for the players, this comes from 32 Thoughts podcast host Jeff Marek who was recently quoted as saying:
that he believes the NHL could enforce full face shields in the attempt to lower facial injuries.
If you've followed any level of hockey you'll know that full face shields have become the norm in most leagues from Tier 2 JR A down, the news about the possibility of implementing face shields at the NHL level isn't surprising however one has to believe it may be difficult to implement.
Many years ago the league started to require new players coming into the league to wear visors while current players were grandfathered to the old rule and allowed them to wear them if they did choose.
It will be interesting to see, yes we want all players to be safe as possible but if a full face shield rule comes into the League this would be the end of fighting in the NHL, and I don't think many fans are players would like that.
