It was a tie game at the time, when the referees asked to see Los Angeles Kings own Marty McSorley's stick which lead to a 2 minute penalty due to have a «illegal curve» officially measured and said.
That two minute penalty costed them the game, losing 3-2 in overtime off that power play the Montreal Canadiens defeated the LA Kings due to McSorley's illegal stick that was called for the first time EVER in NHL history.
