The Chicago Blackhawks are coming up on probably their most important off-season in the past decade. The beginning stages of this rebuild will be very telling as to how long this whole process is actually going to take. The team has a ton of decisions to make about the future of the organization. One of those decisions os going to be whether or not to keep Philip Kurashev around any longer.
Kurashev will be a restricted free agent after this season. The Blackhawks paid him 842,500 this season. In all honesty, probably time for the Blackhawks to move on from Philip Kurashev at this point. Yes it's only been two years, but in those two years he's shown little to no progression in his game. Last season he had a total of 16 points with 8 goals and 8 assists. This season he is sitting at 20 points with 6 goals and 14 assists.
It just really is hard to justify bringing a guy back with such lack of production. And far too often when he is on the ice, if he is not scoring goals, it almost seems as if he is unsure of his role. No he's not a defenseman, but I can think of numerous times just off the top of my head where Kurashev just looks lost out there when the other team has the puck. And the Blackhawks can't afford to waste time with one-dimensional players. That is the last thing that will get you through a rebuild.
