Most deserving Stanley Cup Winners day with the cup canceled following disaster
Kyle Okposo has waited 20 years, for an event like this as he was supposed to have a day with the Stanley Cup.
A day which he would bring the cup to Minnesota, up until teammate Matthew Tkachuk made an announcement.
Okposo has had a long NHL career, playing with teams such as the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres. He wouldn't enjoy his first deep run into the playoffs until 2023-2024 with the Florida Panthers. He'd help secure the team's first Stanley Cup in history.
Now, due to IT outages, Kyle Okposo's day with the cup is in danger as the Stanley Cup's arrival has been setback due to outages in multiple sectors worldwide.
MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT especially if you're driving from a long distance for Kyle Okposo's public Stanley Cup appearance today at Pagel Arena.
It has to be CANCELLED due to the Stanley Cup being stuck in St. Louis because of the global IT outage affecting airlines.
«I'm crushed,» a very disappointed Okposo tells me.
Given the importance of the day for Okposo, the Panthers would allow him an extra day to spend with the cup. But with the offseason schedule being so precarious, we'll see if they allow him that grace(of course which they should). Okposo was reported to be crushed after hearing the news, and of course we empathize with the veteran, giving it all for 20 years and now his name on the Cup, but no time to celebrate and enjoy it as a result of outages.
Rest assured, Okposo's name is etched in NHL history regardless.
