For Marner to be moved, it would likely be a place with little to no pressure that would likely benefit him. A team would also have to have cap space to weaponize, in order to add him.
The addition of Marner could be a huge pro but there are also some cons involved.
With Marner's AAV rising next season, the Leafs may want to find a way out as his current $10.9 Million AAV is quite expensive. He is currently on year 5 of a 6-year deal with the Leafs.
Being part of the "Core Four" has meant great things, for the Maple Leafs' regular season success, with John Tavares, Auston Matthews, and William Nylander failing to be playoff performers.
Marner, unlike Matthews and Nylander who are locked in long-term, is in the final year of his deal. His buy-in keeps rising, while his delivery of post-season success dwindles yearly.
While his lack of playoff success, could be a turn-off for contenders, he could be an upgrade on the wing for Connor Bedard.
Marner is a playmaker, who could up the game of Connor Bedard and fill the role, Taylor Hall was supposed to take in Chicago. Marner could easily upgrade the Blackhawks' offense and elevate Bedard's caliber all the while.
Marner may be a good add if he's here long-term, but for a rebuilding team like the Hawks, you need to think of what assets Davidson would have to give up. If it's high-end draft picks, it wouldn't help the rebuild to bring in Marner.
Losing draft capital for a UFA isn't a great philosophy, along with the fact he could knock Kurashev off the top line, ruining the great chemistry built there already.
It's a great idea, but the difficult nature of the trade and what it would cost could be a negative thing for the team.
