Chicago Blackhawks release sad statement following heartbreaking news

In some sad news for hockey fans, Tony Granato, a former NHL player and current member of the Chicago Blackhawks, shared that he's been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Granato posted on X, saying he'll take a break from his roles at NBC Sports Chicago, Blackhawks broadcasts, and the NHL Network to undergo treatment.

The Blackhawks also released a heartfelt statement:

'Your Blackhawks family is with you'

He thanked everyone for the love and support, emphasizing the importance of family, faith, and friends during tough times. Granato encouraged people to cherish moments with loved ones, especially during the holiday season.

In his own words:

"I debated how to share this news, but I will be taking a temporary leave of absence from NBC Sports Chicago and the Blackhawks broadcasts, as well as NHL Network. I was recently diagnosed with a form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and will begin treatment this week. I wish I could reach out to everyone individually, but felt like this was the best way to share the news. My family, faith, and friends will be my strength to help me through my treatments. I appreciate all the love and support I have received already. With the holiday season here, cherish the times with your loved ones, as I know I will."

Granato, a 59-year-old hockey veteran, had a notable thirteen-season career in the NHL, playing for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks. After retiring from playing, he transitioned to coaching and currently serves in the broadcast booth for the Chicago Blackhawks. The hockey community wishes Granato strength and a quick recovery.
