Cowan, drafted 28th overall in the 1st round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, has shown potential to be an important player in the Maple Leafs down the road.
He's had a great year with the London Knights, during the 2023-2024 NHL regular season, where he's scored 96 points(34 G, 62 A) in 56 games played.
However, the end of the season is when his brilliance on the ice began to show, as he put up points in 36 OHL games. This gives him the third-longest point streak in the CHL, since 2000.
This is the period when players like John Tavares, Mitch Marner, and Matthew Tkachuk also lit it up in the OHL as well.
Cowan's (#LeafsForever) assist on Barkey's (#LetsGoFlyers) 35th extends his point streak to 36 games.
Cowan has passed Connor Bedard and Logan Stankoven for the third longest point streak in the CHL since 2000. Knights PR (@LondonKnightsPR) March 24, 2024
This stat is big, as with his latest assist, he has surpassed Connor Bedard and Logan Stankoven, as recent NHL players who left a mark in the CHL as well.
The 18-year-old will still have plenty of games left to play in the OHL, the Ontario-born forward, will have plenty of time to develop physically and mentally, as he prepares to become an NHLer in the future.
While he may not have a comparable NHL career to Sidney Crosby in the future, he could still turn out to be a great top-six forward in the Maple Leafs system very soon.
