Physical fight with referee to result in Marchand being suspended
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins are locked in Game 6 of their opening round playoff series, but the action on the ice seems a bit lackluster.
The Bruins only managed to record 1 shot in the first period, and in the second
they bounced back recording 12 more shots, while the Leafs scored to break the ice.
However, amidst this heated tilt between these 2 rivals, Bruins captain Brad Marchand engaged in a shoving match with linesman Ryan Daisy.
While no penalty was assessed, such incidents are taken seriously by the NHL.
Rule 601: A match penalty shall be assessed to any player or team official who commits the following actions: 1. Applies deliberate physical force or attempts to inflict physical harm to any game official, including off-ice officials.
Marchand could potentially face disciplinary action, including a suspension or fine from the NHL player safety committee, for what could be considered 'abuse of an official', despite the incident being relatively minor.
