Reports out of Boston are ugly as Jeremy Swayman's contract talks take a major turn

The Boston Bruins negotiations with RFA goalie, Jeremy Swayman seem to have devolved. This will be disappointing to Bruins fans as they had assumed due to overtures in the media, things were going well.

But, rumors made this way around the media this week, as the Bruins made a pitch, a low-ball offer that Barstool employee, and former NHLer, Ryan Whitney posted.

"I have a pretty reliable source that told me, current Swayman offer from the Bruins: 4 x $6.2 million," said Whitney.

Whitney mentioned that Swayman has been looking for a contract with more term and value, like an 8-year, $9.5 Million deal, totaling $76 Million.

"Their ask is the McAvoy contract," said Whitney of Swayman's camp.

But apparently, the most disturbing part of this all is the fact that Sweeney and the Bruins cut contact with Swayman's camp.

"The Bruins have not contacted or returned Swayman's call in 3 weeks," said Whitney.

It's one thing when only one individual reports the situation, but when it's been confirmed by one of the league's top insiders, the situation is scary.

"Nobody has disputed that to me, so I think he's right," said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast.

Additionally, it sounds like Swayman at one point did have the term he wanted, at 8 years but the pay was considerably lower than his ask.

"I do believe at some point there was an 8 year deal on the table but it was in the sixes," revealed Friedman. "I don't think at any point here anyone has ever been close."

Is Don Sweeney going to fumble Swayman?

This could be a perfect scenario to offer-sheet him for Davidson.
