The Flames a team that had been written off even before the season has begun have surprised the NHL with their fast start. They have been getting great contributions from Jonathan Huberdeau, Martin Popisil and solid goaltending from Dan Vladar.
General manager Craig Conroy along with ownership have made it clear that it's likely the Flames will go into a full rebuild as they continued to sell off their top talent which could include Nazem Kadri and defenseman Rasmus Andersson this season.
The Blackhawks meanwhile are looking to put some wins together after a great 4-point performance from Teuvo Teravanien and a three-point night for Connor Bedard and Seth Jones defeating the Western Conference champions Edmonton Oilers 5-2 on Saturday.
The Blackhawks have been slowly getting their legs and their lines together as the team is currently 1-1-1 in the standings and hopes to be further along going into the next week. After losing 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets and then beating the Oilers, the Blackhawks have some momentum behind them and beating the flames would certainly bolster their confidence and help their win totals as they would face off against the Sharks on Thursday October 17th for their home opener.
Mrazek will start in goal.
Head coach Luke Richardson continues to work with his team as the new players who were acquired during the summer appeared to be gelling with some lines.
The team is still a work in progress as their penalty kill and power play are still nowhere to be desired but it's a long season and perhaps, they could find a way to improve their chances.
