The Chicago Blackhawks recently recalled goalie prospect, Drew Commesso from the AHL.

Commesso was brought in while starting goalie Petr Mrazek had to take leave for a personal matter.

Commesso would serve as backup to Arvid Soderblom, who nearly held onto the game to deliver a victory. However, the Blackhawks would surrender 3-2.

The prospect would never get a chance to see the ice last night, even while the Hawks weren't performing up to par.

The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that the team has assigned goaltender Drew Commesso to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

In turn, the IceHogs have assigned goaltender Ben Gaudreau to the Indy Fuel of the ECHL.

With Ben Gaudreau's return to the ECHL, Commesso will return to Rockford as the IceHogs starting goalie.

Commesso has played 6 games for the IceHogs this season and has come away with a 2-4-0 record this season, with a 3.71 GAA, and a .854 save percentage.

With that kind of coverage in the AHL, it seemed unlikely that Luke Richardson would consider slotting him else in unless it was a worst-case scenario for the Hawks.

According to Chris Peters of ESPN:

Chris Peters - ESPN - June 30th: "Commesso has good size and poise in the net, plays a technically sound game and doesn't waste a lot of movements. He had very few bad outings this season and seemed to thrive in games where he saw a lot of pucks."

It seems like Commesso will have to find that kind of play that fits his player profile in 2020 before he can be trusted to be brought up into the Blackhawks full-time.

For now, it seems he'll have to settle for being an emergency back up, until he improves his game.
