Chicago Blackhawk's Luke Richardson has had a difficult time finding the right combinations to produce a winning record this season.

The Blackhawks are 6-12-1 in his third season as Head Coach.

While there's been no word that the seat has gotten hotter with the losing record, the Blackhawks should be considerably better.

With news of the Boston Bruins firing Jim Montgomery, the Blackhawks should consider a shift in priorities.

They should explore hiring a winning coach like Jim Montgomery, whose record with the Bruins was:

Montgomery, 55, had a 120-41-23 record (.715 points percentage) in three seasons with the Bruins, making the playoffs twice. Both trips to the postseason ended at the hands of the Florida Panthers.

According to Grant Blair of BlackhawkUp, the Blackhawks are considering the change.

Montgomery also won the Jack Adams Award in 2022-2023 and a President's Trophy with the Bruins that season.

Richardson's Time is over

Luke Richardson's tenure seems to have reached its peak last season, as he has done his best with the Blackhawks lineup.

But it's obvious the product on the ice, is reflecting the fact that there's something wrong behind the bench.

Coaches get tuned out, and the status quo becomes stale sometimes. Could this be an instance of that?

Absolutely.

The problem is the Blackhawks have actually been worse this year than they were last year. A year ago the Blackhawks were 6-10-3 (15 points) whereas this year the Hawks are 6-12-1 (13 points) through the first 19 games of the season and sit dead last in the league.

The Bruins experienced a renaissance going from Bruce Cassidy to Jim Montgomery without missing a beat.

Montgomery's records speak for themselves, and while he may have lost the locker room, it's arguable that he was the scapegoat for Don Sweeney and Cam Neely.

Monty would be able to establish a winning culture, and his style of offense emphasizes efficiency and better shot placement.

To me, Montgomery checks all of the boxes you would want. He has experience and success at basically every level he has coached at with coaching and developing younger players like in College and players at the NHL level as well.

Would you hire Jim Montgomery?
