Blackhawks snap five-game losing streak while making NHL history vs Rangers on Monday

The Chicago Blackhawks headed into the Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers on Monday, riding a five-game losing streak.

A hard fought 2-1 win saw the Blackhawks on top of a Rangers team who's also in a slump, with just two wins in their past eight games played.

This game marked NHL history for the Blackhawks and their new head coach Anders Sorensen, as he is the first Swedish-born head coach in NHL history, earning the first win of a Swedish born NHL coach.

Tyler Bertuzzi and Taylor Hall were key contributors in the teams win, while Arvid Soderblom earned player of the game with a lights out performance.

Soderblom was awestruck at the Madison Square Garden crowd, stating it was a childhood dream of his.

«It was a childhood dream to play here, watching Lundqvist growing up. It was a cool feeling to step on that ice and play as good as we did.»
Said the Blackhawks goaltender

Sorensen's impact on the Blackhawks has been far more than noticeable, and it may put Luke Richardson's time with the Blackhawks to shame.

Sorensen ran a 1-2-2 format against the Rangers in their strong offence of Mike Zibanejad, Artemi Panarin and more- it worked, holding them to a single goal.

The Blackhawks are now gearing up to face the New York Islanders on Thursday at 6:30 p.m CT.
