Colton Dach Fined By Gary Bettman And NHL In NHL Debut vs Canadiens

Colton Dach of the Chicago Blackhawks took the ice early tonight with his rookie lap and will be fined by Gary Bettman and the NHL.

The fine will come as a result of Dach who took his rookie lap tonight in the United Center without a helmet.

The trend is a continuance of rookies who have decided to forego typical safety measures enforced by the NHL, as newer prospects have been victims of circumstances.

Bedard was fined $2,500 for his helmet less rookie lap.

We don't know what kind of fine the NHL will levy against Colton Dach and the Chicago Blackhawks, but we should expect no less than the CBA will allow right?

This call-up has been a long time coming for Dach, 21. Since being drafted 62nd overall in 2021, the Saskatchewan native has developed nicely. Dach posted 27 points in 48 games last year as a rookie in the AHL.

The Former 2nd-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks will called up after the team decided to send Joey Anderson down to the Rockford IceHogs.

The lineup as of late, has been decidedly younger with multiple injuries plaguing the team.

The team itself could use the spark, and Colton Dach could be the one who breathes new life into this struggling team.

The decision to sit Lukas Reichel, send Anderson to the AHL, and give Dach a chance was swift and happened soon after the team's 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues at the 2025 Winter Classic.

Blackhawk Up has a great description of what Dach will bring to the team:

At 6'4» and nearly 200 pounds, Dach plays a power-forward style game and should give the forward group some juice when he gets into the lineup. If Dach can play a hard, physical game and chip in some offense like he has this season in Rockford, he can certainly make an impact in the coming days and weeks.

Despite his physical style of play, he can't escape Gary Bettman, the NHL, and the DOPS bureaucracy.

Dach will feel a slight pain in his wallet, as he only makes $825K AAV and is in year two of his three-year entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The power forward was selected 62nd overall in the 2nd round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
