It was a memorable first meeting when both teams clashed last year at the Chris Chelios jersey retirement ceremony. Both players put on a show for the fans as they were able to watch their past meet their future. Kane Showed Chicago crowd that he still has what it takes to play in the NHL as he put impressive goals past Petr Mrazek while Bedard scored the winning goal to win the game for the home crowd 3-2.
Both teams have a renewed sense of hope for their organizations as the Red Wings almost willed themselves into the playoffs but was just short due to a standing's technicality. The Blackhawks on the other hand, have added significant reinforcements to their lineup to move the needle out of the basement in the standings and begin the process of becoming a playoff contending team.
General manager Kyle Davidson has mentioned several times that it's time for the team to turn the page on the rebuild and start to make noise in the league. Adding across all levels of his team, will certainly help Bedard become a better player and take his game to the next level.
The Red Wings felt adding came back into the lineup was the right thing to do as he showed that his abilities as a hockey player after receiving double hip surgery has not slowed him down and that he was almost a point a game in the number of games he played last year.
Even though it's a preseason game, the home crowd will likely be ignited as Kane along with former Blackhawks star Alex Debrincat will take on Tyler Bertuzzi, newly minted Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno and Bedard. This will also continue the rivalry between the Red Wings and the Blackhawks as these two organizations have done battle for decades.
It's safe to say that it will be electric and hopefully both coaches will allow their star players to break it open and put on a show for everyone to watch.
