The Chicago Blackhawks will face off against Patrick Kane and the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. This will be the first time since February 2024 since Connor Bedard and Kane battled on the ice.

This time though in the studio, The Great One via NHL on TNT will be present to help break down the game, at each intermission.

Last season Gretzky was amazed with Bedard's capabilities, and should again be in awe of the face of the teams franchise.

"I couldn't do what he did tonight," Gretzky told Bally St.Louis. "That just wasn't in my repertoire. I didn't have the right kind of curve. Hully (Bobby Hull) could do it. I could never do what he did tonight. It was fun to watch. My daughter Emma is with me. And she goes, 'Dad, did you ever do that?' And I said 'No, I could never do that.'"

Keep in mind how humble Gretzky was while saying this last season, will Bedard be able to keep The Great One at the edge of his seat Wednesday? Let's hope.

TNT's coverage of the NHL has been great, as we get to see Gretzky keep his connection to the game. Albeit in a limited role, we still get the benefit of a legend who isn't done yet.

It'll be some time before we ever see Connor Bedard catching Gretzky's records records.

But when he does, it'll be all over the news and we shouldn't be surprised then.

"Well, he's been fun to watch. He's probably better than we anticipated," Gretzky said. "He's not only an ambassador on the ice but he's been tremendous off the ice for an 18-year-old young man. I'm happy for him. He's got the right coach in Luke Richardson, the right organization."

It'll be a star-studded night with Patrick Kane on the ice, Wayne Gretzky in the studio, and Bedard in his sophomore season in the NHL.

Wayne Gretzky's goal record comes closer to being tied every game, as Ovechkin is now 35 goals shy of breaking 894 goals in the NHL.

Do you think Connor Bedard will ever put up the numbers that Wayne Gretzky did?
