The Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Storm celebrated adults and children with developmental disabilities last week, with a Hockey Holiday.
The Chicago Blackhawks are a team that doesn't stop giving back to the local community.
The two teams held a special skate at Fifth Third Arena for the "Special Holiday Skate".
The Chicago Storm Special Hockey club has been around for 25 years, and has players with an age range of 5 to 55. The team consists of adults and children with developmental disabilities.
We have over 100 players and continue to grow! We practice at 5 rinks across Chicagoland area.
The players enjoyed some time with some of their favorite Blackhawks hockey players, as the two teams collaborated on a night that celebrated the sport.
The CSSH plays at five rinks in Chicago, with the other four in Rockford, Gurnee, Glen Ellyn, and Orland Park.
It's great to see the Blackhawks continue to work with underserved communities like the CSSH.
This kind of outreach can grow the game of hockey, and its fanbase. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks players can find solace in their great work, especially here.
The CSSH plays at Fifth Third Arena, the Blackhawks official practice facility, so it was easy to organize the event.
December 19th, 2024 saw the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate the Rockford IceHogs, don a special jersey with a Chicago Storm Special Hockey crest.
The two teams remain interconnected; this is an example of how NHL teams need to give value back to the community.
