Corey Perry will remain with the Edmonton Oilers through next season, as he hunts another cup with the upstart team.

But the question remains, is Perry a future Hockey Hall of Fame inductee?

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News has opined on Perry's career, and during the piece would explore the contract termination in Chicago.

At the time, the rumor mill was swirling of Perry's infidelity with one of his teammate's mother's, notably Connor Bedard's. Those rumors were proven to be false by the Blackhawks organization and Perry himself. But neither player or team would shed much light which led to his contract termination with the Blackhawks.

There was speculation it was an alcohol-related incident in November while the team was set to face the Columbus Blue Jackets. There was only ever a vague description of what happened and never any confirmation.

Earlier this year, Hawks Insider Mark Lazerus revealed how sensitive information was surrounding the situation, as it is a mystery to this day. He also pondered how much the Oilers knew before signing the veteran forward to a contract.

Despite Perry's ability to rebound in Edmonton, there remains a focus to take a look behind the curtains of his past failure with the Blackhawks.

We may never truly know what happened, but Adam Proteau let us know what resolution there was:

«The Chicago Blackhawks also terminated his contract in November 2023, saying he violated his contract and team policies intended to promote a safe and professional work environment. Both parties reached an undisclosed settlement afterward, according to the Associated Press."

There was no mention of who settled with whom, whether it was with Perry and the Blackhawks, or the Blackhawks themselves.

One has to wonder how much cost them.

Perry will look to hoist the Stanley Cup in 2025, with the Edmonton Oilers and break the infamous "curse" he's thought to have on teams.

He continued his post-season misfortune, continuing his string of bad luck and losing his fourth Stanley Cup Final with his fifth team.

Perry has made it to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Dallas Stars in 2020, Montreal Canadiens in 2021, Anaheim Ducks in 2007, and Tampa Bay Lightning in 2022, and now he lost with the Oilers.

Perry has played 19 seasons in the NHL, playing 1,311 games scoring 905 points( 429 G, 476 A), and won the cup in 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks.

The terms of the settlement, appear to be sealed and confidential forever.
