Former Chicago Blackhawk and veteran NHL forward to be forced into retirement for saddened reasoning
With less than a month to go before the NHL season starts, former Blackhawks player Tyler Johnson still hasn't signed with any team.
Johnson mentioned in his last talk with the Blackhawks' GM that he wants to play important games next season, and he won't be returning to Chicago.
After having a $5 million salary cap hit, Johnson finds himself without many options, as most teams have already spent their budgets.
He played three seasons with the Blackhawks but never managed to play all 82 games in any season.
Last season, he played 67 games, scored 17 goals, and had 14 assists but ended up with a poor rating of -35.
Johnson has often been injured and has only managed to play a full season once since the 2013-2014 season.
He might sign a try-out agreement in September to see if he can secure a contract, but a long-term deal seems unlikely, retirement is looming.
