Former First Round-Pick Hits The Waiver Wire The Weekend Before Four Nations Face Off
The waiver wire was busy today since the New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks, and Philadelphia Flyers have exercised their right to demote their talent.
The New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, and San Jose Sharks waived three players today.
One of those demoted was a former first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Colin White.
White spent the last two seasons of his career jumping from the NHL and AHL.
This season would be no different, as he'd only get a chance to suit up for three games before being placed on waivers by GM Mike Grier.
The professional journeyman has earned over $34 million during his hockey career and has now been relegated to a depth option.
The New Jersey Devils would place former fourth-round draft pick Santeri Hattaka on waivers, while
Anthony Richard of the Philadelphia Flyers, would join them.
Teams could always use players like Colin White as a depth addition, and with his current cost of only $850K AAV, he'd be a great option as a call-up in the case of injury.
Case in point, with the Blackhawks center
Jason Dickinson being out for a couple of weeks, the team could bolster the ranks in Chicago and send him to Rockford when Dickinson returns.
White signed a one-year, two-way deal in January, and spent the beginning of the year with the Barracuda.
He'd fail to register a point in the three games he suited up for the Sharks, but could find a place on a younger lineup, like the Hawks.
Another option while Dickinson is out is Anthony Richard who turned heads during the Flyers training camp.
He's never had a true shot at a job in the NHL but has been on fire in the AHL the last two seasons. In Lehigh Valley, he's scored 67 points, and 55 points consecutively.
While Santeri Hattaka is a 24-year-old defenseman who has failed to crack a lineup in the NHL.
Since signing with the Devils in the summer, he's found himself playing in the AHL for the majority of this season.
While the Blackhawks are undoubtedly set to move pieces during the trade deadline, talent is difficult to come by, and working the waiver wire is one way of acquiring it.
