The New York Islanders have reached a stage of confusion with the state of their organization, and list a young star defenseman on the trade block.

The New York Islanders, sitting at the 5th spot in the NHL's Metropolitan Division, appear to be making a big splash as general manager Lou Lamoriello has listed a 25-year old defenseman on the trade block.
The contradicting move to placing a 25-year old, first-pairing defenseman, coming off a 70 point season in 2023 on the block is with 33-year old forward Brock Nelson.

Brock Nelson extension incoming in New York

The Islanders, while placing prime defenseman Noah Dobson on the block, have offered Brock Nelson a 3-year extension, until he is 36 years of age.
Blackhawks in the running to acquire Noah Dobson from Islanders
It would be a big move for general manager Kyle Davidson to make, and quite the addition to add to their young-core of forwards, a two-way defenseman in his prime to be on the backend with Bedard up front.
The acquisition of Dobson by the Blackhawks now has a set asking price, and it is for a 'scoring player', according to a report that revealed Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello's asking price for the 25-year old.
Instead of the Blackhawks having to cough up first-round draft picks, and prospects for Dobson, the Islanders' GM is expecting an odd return of a goal scoring forward.
The Blackhawks hold multiple forwards that suit the Islanders needs at the moment, including Teuvo Teravainen, Ryan Donato and Tyler Bertuzzi, the Blackhawks' leading goal scorer.
On a dwelling-bottom of the NHL's standings Blackhawks roster, Bertuzzi has managed to bury home a team high of 17 goals on the season. Teravainen (2nd) and Donato (3rd) both lead the Blackhawks in scoring behind Connor Bedard at #1.
Dobson is a 6-foot-4, 200lb right-shot defenseman that are hard to come by, especially with an NHL resume of his caliber. In the 2023-24 season, Dobson managed to put up 70 points in 79 games with the Islanders, and currently has 24 points in 46 games this season.
A restricted free agent this season coming off a $4 million deal, the Blackhawks and their projected $30M+ in cap space are the ideal landing spot for Dobson.
