Several indications showed that some NHL teams were interested in signing Raanta including the Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. But with both clubs having a solid pipeline of goaltenders, it's likely he would have begun his season in the American Hockey League.
Clearly this is of no interest to him as he has been an NHL goaltender for many years. He played last season with the Carolina Hurricanes a team that he has been with for years and through 27 games in 2022-23, he had a goal against average of 2.23 and a save percentage of .910.
His gameplay fell off very quickly last year where his goals against average ballooned to 2.99 and save percentage collapsed to .872. This led to the Hurricanes passing him through waivers to which he was reassigned to the AHL.
The undrafted goaltender was signed by the Blackhawks in 2013 and played two seasons with the organization before heading to the New York Rangers in 2015. His second season in the NHL with the Blackhawks was far better even though he only played fourteen games pit he held a record of 12-7-4 and had a goals against a 1.89 with a save percentage of .936. It's also worth noting that he won the Stanley Cup in 2015.
It's likely he will find a new home overseas and with his playing career over in North America it's safe to say that he had a successful career, and his name is now etched on the Cup.
