Major controversy shakes up in Toronto following a known ESPN commentator, Leah Hextall, being accused by a former NHL referee, Tim Peel, of misinforming the media.

The controversial referee was terminated from the NHL a few years ago and did not hold back on social media following Leah Hextall recently revealing inaccurate information, leading to Tim Peel believing she should go down with him, by receiving termination from the league.
Hexall incorrectly stated that the new Toronto Maple Leafs forward, Scott Laughton, would experience the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 1st time in his career if the organization makes it through this year.
However, this information is misleading and inaccurate, as Laughton has in fact participated in a total of 24 playoff games with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Take a look:
«Leah Hextall just said on ESPN that Scott Laughton would be playing in the playoffs for the first time in his career.

Laughton played games in the 2016, 2018, and 2020 playoffs. He has 24 playoff games played in his career.»
This incorrect information has the ESPN commentator running for her money, as she has another thing coming from a once known NHL referee.
Tim Peel was terminated from the league back in 2021, after being caught cursing on the mic, claiming he wanted to call a penalty on the Nashville Predators when they took on the Detroit Red Wings.
However, his intention to get this ESPN commentator fired has been an on-going issue.
It was not long ago when Peel previously targeted Hexall for inaccuracy while she was live on air.
In 2022, during a matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Hexall interviewed the Leafs' enforcer, Wayne Simmonds, and asked if he was going to fight Tampa's Pat Maroon 'again'; the only issue is that these players had never dropped the gloves against one another.
«I will take a lot of heat for this but I am a big boy. Leah Hextall doesn't even know they have not fought before. Asking Wayne Simmonds if he is soft might be one of the most ridiculous questions I have ever heard. Do your homework.»

Hextall fired back at Peel expressing he should understand mistakes happen sometimes.
«Tim, the fact was told to me in the moment by our team who is almost always right! As a retired official, you should understand mistakes can be made. No issue with you not liking my question - your opinion. I do take exception to you questioning my preparation & work ethic. Best.»

It seems as though Tim hasn't let go of his termination and has intent to take others down with him.
