The Chicago Blackhawks could use a trade package of picks and prospects to acquire a 1C like Elias Pettersson if they want to improve the lineup.

While GM Kyle Davidson's experiment of signing multiple NHL veterans hasn't worked out as he expected this season, there's always the trade deadline.

He could ship out veterans, picks, and prospects to upgrade a team, and improve one of the worst records in the NHL. The Hawks are 14-28-2, with a -39 goal differential.

All of the firepower bought during the off-season that isn't "helpful" should be put on the block, even though Ryan Donato should as well, to maximize a return with some decent value.

With news of internal strife hitting the Canucks locker-room, between JT Miller and Elias Petterson, GM Kyle David should inquire about the Canucks needs.

Formulate a plan to acquire someone like Elias Pettersson, who is still young enough( age 26 ) to be a successful part of the rebuild, and increase the depth of the team down the middle.

Now, you're wondering about the costs right? Everyone wants a premium player, and typically at a former 100+ point forward who wouldn't be a UFA until 2032, would be a coup for Davidson.

Here's what Chicago would have to consider giving up for him, three different packages for the elite 1C.

To Blackhawks: Elias Pettersson

To Canucks: Frank Nazar, Marek Vanacker, 2025 First-Round Pick (TOR)

To Blackhawks: Elias Pettersson

To Canucks: Sacha Boisvert, Oliver Moore, 2025 First Round Pick (TOR)

To Blackhawks: Elias Pettersson

To Canucks: Jason Dickinson, Taylor Hall, Artyom Levshunov, 2025 Sixth Round Pick

Since the Canucks are in win-now mode, a package dealing veterans like Hall and Dickinson would be beneficial for the team. They could immediately make an impact in the lineup and keep the Canucks in the hunt.

Which is why the Hawks should consider moving veterans before their prospects and it would be painful to deal Artyom Levshunov, but he's still at least a year or more away from an NHL debut, considering how the Blackhawks handle their defensive talent.

Sacha Boisvert is currently playing for the University of North Dakota. As of now, he leads them in scoring and is one of the most impressive freshmen in the country.

Oliver Moore is fresh off his second straight Gold Medal with Team USA at the World Junior Championships. He also plays college hockey at the University of Minnesota where he consistently delivers good play in all three zones.

If you don't move off of Artyom Levshunov, you'll have to trade one of your first-round picks in the last two years including players with high upside, like Oliver Moore, Frank Nazar, or Sacha Boisvert.

Idealistically, Moore and Nazar should be off of the board but for Pettersson who has experience in the playoffs and scored 39 goals and 102 points in 2022-2023, you will have to empty the cache, value for value.
