NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has a bad track record with deals that don't really help the league, and now he's made another one that almost cost the NHL millions.
Bettman has been signing all kinds of contracts, like jersey and TV deals within the last several months, that just don't seem right for the league. For example, Fanatics, a company known for quality issues is now the NHL's jersey supplier.
The poor choices don't stop there.
The NHL and NBA recently signed new broadcasting deals with Diamond Sports Group, the company that owns Bally Sports. But right after the NHL signed this deal, Diamond Sports Group is now heading toward bankruptcy, with a hearing set for September 3rd to see what happens next.
«We are appreciative of the ongoing collaboration and long-term partnerships with the NBA and NHL, David Preschlack, Diamond's CEO, said in a statement. These new agreements that cover NBA and NHL linear and (direct-to-consumer) rights are another major milestone and continue Diamond's momentum toward emergence, which will enable us to provide value for our NBA and NHL partners and continue to serve dedicated local NBA, NHL and MLB fans.»
Diamond Sports Group's CEO, David Preschlack, said they appreciate the partnerships with the NBA and NHL and believe these new deals will help their business and the leagues.
