Patrick Kane issues statement on returning to the Blackhawks
Sunday will be a special day at the United Center as the Chicago Blackhawks retire Chris Chelios' No. 7 jersey. It's also a big moment as Patrick Kane, a franchise legend now playing for the rival Detroit Red Wings, returns.
Kane, who left the Blackhawks in a trade to the New York Rangers last season, is excited to be back in Chicago. "The fans there were incredible," Kane told Scott Powers of The Athletic. "From day one, just supporting me as a first overall pick and a young kid... I always felt the support from the fans."
Exactly one year ago, Kane played his last home game as a Blackhawk. It was memorable, with a near-game-winning goal that missed beating the overtime buzzer. There wasn't a big farewell like Jonathan Toews got in Chicago's season finale.
Now, as they honor Chelios, Blackhawks fans will cheer for their beloved three-time Stanley Cup champion. Kane is looking forward to sharing that moment with them. "It'll be fun to go back and just share that moment with the fans."
