Kane signed a $6.5 million contract which holds a cap hit of $4 million. LeBrun mentioned several teams in the mix but in the end, Detroit was the choice all along.
«There was interest in teams like Buffalo, his hometown Sabres, the Rangers where he played before, Montreal if it was a short term deal, among other teams, lots of interest in Patrick Kane,» LeBrun said . «I think with Detroit at the end of the day, he really enjoyed it there and he needed to really find a reason to have to leave.»
Prior to the season coming to an end, some people felt that a reunion between the Blackhawks and Kane may be on the horizon. But it appears this was not the case as both Kane and the Blackhawks have moved on.
The three-time Stanley Cup champ with the Blackhawks had an interesting season with Detroit after undergoing major hip resurfacing surgery that kept him out of the lineup for several months. It was announced prior to Christmas that he was returning to the NHL and many teams lined up to call his agent to find out what it would take to land his services.
General manager Steve Yzerman managed to sign him to a one year $2.7 million contract to which he played 50 games, scoring 20 goals with 27 assists for 47 points and came within one period of coming up short in breaking the Red Wings Stanley Cup playoff drought.
