Rather than re-sign Brad Marchand, the Boston Bruins opted to trade him to the Stanley Cup-contending Florida Panthers, as Don Sweeney received a terrible return for the Captain.

GM Don Sweeney could've used the situation to his advantage when he traded former Bruins Captain Brad Marchand to their Atlantic Division rivals, the Florida Panthers.
He should've extracted the most value he could for the 36-year-old, who has made two trips to the Stanley Cup finals with the B's, and won one in 2011.
Now, the Bruins stand on the cusp of total failure and instead of using the situation to gain an advantage, he utilized it to find a way to deliver an underwhelming return for the Captain.
Instead of getting a 1st-round pick, he settled for a 2027 2nd-round pick, which could become a conditional 1st-round pick in 2028.
A total fleece job by GM Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers.
Bruins Insider Jimmy Murphy gives the correct perspective.
Apologies if it has already been reported, but I'm hearing that the Bruins are getting a conditional 2027 2nd rd pick that can become a 1st in 2028 for Brad Marchand from (Panthers).

Trying to confirm the conditions. First reaction: Not nearly enough for the Bruins

Blackhawks got more value for Petr Mrazek than Bruins did for Marchand

The Blackhawks completed a move with the Detroit Red Wings, sending goaltender Petr Mrazek away.
Surprisingly, the Blackhawks received a former first round, 30th overall pick in young forward Joe Veleno - much more than the Bruins received for Brad Marchand.
Bruins fans are upset and calling for Sweeney's job, and who could blame them? He destroyed the Bruins as they now in order to retool the lineup, and now they will remain out of playoff contention for the foreseeable future in our opinion.
The least he could've gotten out of Marchand is a 1st-rounder in 2025, but let his divisional rival run rough-shod over the original-six organization.
Marchand has played 61 games for the Bruins this season and scored 47 points (21 G, 26 A).
