Terrifying scene involving former Blackhawks defensemen Jake McCabe in Toronto with the Maple Leafs
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs have been rivals since the Maple Leafs knocked them out of the playoffs in 2023. The bad blood hasn't ended, despite the exit of someone like Steven Stamkos.
The Maple Leafs with Craig Berube behind the bench have done their best to adapt to Chief's style, and it has paid off. The team is 2nd in the Atlantic Division, just about their rivals from Florida.
During the match, defenseman Nick Perbix would attempt to put a shot on the net but McCabe unintentionally would be in the way. The puck was intended to make it past goalie Joseph Woll, but would instead hit Jake McCabe in the neck.
A scary sight for anyone who plays and watches hockey, as the puck is launched at speeds of 80-100 MPH.
McCabe would feel the pain, as he'd fall to the ice writhing in pain, and would head back to the locker room to get checked up.
But McCabe would return for the rest of the game, fortunately, no major injury occurred.
"Catches him, looks like, right in the ear."
Despite the loss of McCabe in addition to Captain Auston Matthews being missing, the Toronto Maple Leafs held on to win 5-3 over the Lightning, and Nikita Kucherov.
Fortunately for Maple Leafs fans though, it was reported by Head Coach Berube that he'd be available for the next game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.
McCabe will return to Chicago, who originally sent him to Toronto attached with center Sam Lafferty, and two conditional fifth-round picks in 2024 and 2025.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenceman Jake McCabe, forward Sam Lafferty, a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024, and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025 from the Chicago Blackhawks, the team announced Monday.
The Leafs are sending the Blackhawks a conditional 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and forwards Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are 14-7-2 and 2nd in the Atlantic Division and will put up a good fight against Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks on December 2nd.
