The Chicago Blackhawks will Honor Hall of Famer Jeremy Roenick Next Week
The Chicago Blackhawks will honor legendary winger and analyst Jeremy Roenickon December 19th.
The celebration of Jeremy Roenick's career will culminate at the Hockey Hall of Fame, where a spot in the hall will be reserved for the power forward.
Now, after his induction into the Hall of Fame on November 11th, 2024 the Blackhawks will set aside a night to celebrate his contribution to the franchise and to honor his career.
The event will take place at the United Center Atrium at 5:45 and will last until 6:15 followed by puck drop against the Seattle Kraken at 7:30 PM.
The Blackhawks invite ticketed fans to attend a special pregame Q&A with Roenick, moderated by Radio Color Analyst Troy Murray, at 5:45 p.m. in the United Center Atrium ahead of Thursday evening's game against Seattle.
Roenick will also kick off the game by sounding the horn to start the game, and to call attention to his legendary 20-year career in the NHL.
The Call
Jeremy Roenick thought he'd never get the call that he received in September, waiting in line for his coffee at a local Starbucks.
"When you wait for a long time, you don't know how [the call] is going to hit you," Roenick said in September, addressing the Chicago media in a Hall of Fame availability with the Blackhawks. "And I thought, maybe before, that it wasn't going to be as big a deal as it was. But it hit me like a train."
But it finally happened and we were able to witness his Hall of Fame speech, and witness the spectacle, and the emotion surrounding his induction.
It was a long time coming for a Blackhawks player who unfortunately never won a Stanley Cup, but did secure Silver in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
Roenick scored his 500th NHL goal on November 10th, 2007, and has two World Junior Championships achievements to his name-- in 1989 earning the tournament all-star and leading scorer. He also was on the QMJHL's Second All-Star team in 1989.
Roenick was also rated 4th in the IGN's All-Time Athlete's list. That's only a handful of his accomplishments during his long career.
The Boston, Mass., native currently ranks ninth in franchise history in goals (267) and 11th in points (596). Additionally, Roenick reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of eight seasons with the team, earning 77 points (35G, 42A) in 82 postseason contests in a Blackhawks sweater. He ranks eighth all-time in club history with 35 goals and 10th with 77 points, while he ranks fifth with eight game-winning goals in the postseason.
He was originally selected by the Blackhawks 8th overall in the 1st round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks scoring 596 points( 267 G, 329) in 524 regular season games.
