Top Blackhawks Prospect Suspended One Game for Cross-Checking
Artyom Levshunov has been suspended in the AHL for one game after cross-checking someone in the face.
Blackhawks prospect Artyom Levshunov received a game misconduct and a one-game suspension for this cross-check in yesterday's game.
It looks like Levshunov really didn't mean to hit him that high or do it judging by his reaction afterwards. However, unfortunately, that doesn't matter in this case, because at the end of the day, he ended up catching him in the face and getting a suspension.
Levshunov was drafted with the second overall pick by the Chicago Blackhawks last year. The move was highly criticized because some fans wanted
Ivan Demidov, but luckily, the Blackhawks have put themselves in the position to get their second top forward prospect in the span of two years this year.
Artyom missed camp over the summer and the first month of the AHL season with the Rockford Icehogs because he injured his right foot blocking a shot. Artyom was activated by the Blackhawks in late October and has been called up and sent back down a couple times, but has never played in an NHL game.
The decision to draft Levshunov is paying off, as outside of the cross-check and suspension, he finally started to heat back up to what we saw from Michigan State after his injury.
Levshunov was riding ten points in his last ten games while being a great defenseman in general with holding the blue line, making great defensive plays, and creating offensive opportunities.
On the power play as well, he ripped a puck past the goalie from the top of the left circle. Expect to see him on PP1 and
Alex Vlasic on PP2 in the future.
Levshunov has the highest ceiling, and is starting to show why he was picked second overall.
Hopefully, this is only a bump in the road.
