Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell reveals info on Johnny Gaudreau's replacement in Columbus
The Columbus Blue Jackets have lost a key piece in Johnny Gaudreau after his tragic death, on August 29th. The loss of Gaudreau hurts not only at the emotional but hockey level.
It does seem too early to address the topic, considering Gaudreau's death is fresh on our minds. But Blue Jackets GM Waddell decided to discuss the topic anyway.
The Blue Jackets are currently under the cap floor and somehow will have to sign, someone to reach the salary floor of the NHL.
With Patrik Laine being traded to Montreal($8.7 Million AAV) and Johnny Gaudreau's contract( $9.75 Million AAV) have come off the Blue Jackets books in recent weeks.
Will the Blue Jackets sign someone?
It seems way too soon to have to address the topic, but Don Waddell addressed it during a recent media availability.
«I know there are questions about our team, how we will move forward without Johnny and the impact this loss will have on our team. Those questions will be answered another day. Our immediate priority is supporting the Gaudreau family.»
- Don Waddell
Waddell addressed the topic perfectly.
it shouldn't be a priority for the team to address that situation, while the Gaudreau family needs help and is still grieving. The team is focused on supporting Johnny's loved ones as they should be.
We hope for the respectability of the league, that Bettman and company will not penalize the Blue Jackets.
