New details have emerged about the crash on August 29 that claimed the lives of Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau.
At a hearing on Friday, it was revealed that the driver, 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins from New Jersey, had a blood alcohol level of 0.087, just above the legal limit of 0.08. This information was obtained from a blood draw and presented as new evidence in the case against Higgins, info provided by the Columbus Dispatch.
Higgins faces two counts of death by auto, along with other traffic charges.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that Higgins "told the troopers everything that happened," according to his attorney, Portella. "He just took the lives of two people and upended families... The fact that he was suicidal, we understand that. He's no longer suicidal," Portella added.
The crash has left the hockey community and the Gaudreau family devastated.
As time passes, more worrisome details come forward involving this tragedy- and we continue to send our thoughts and prayers to everybody involved.
