The team held a press conference to announce the signing, during which Perry discussed his time away from the NHL.

He revealed that he had been working with counselors and received professional help to get him to where he is today - with a new team.

Perry expressed gratitude towards his family, friends, and support system for helping him reflect on his situation, take responsibility for his actions in Chicago, and work towards getting better every day.

«It's been a long time to get back to this spot, to be back on that ice with players in the NHL,» Perry said. «I have to thank my family, my friends, all the support I have gotten, the support from my counsellors, and just try to better myself each and every day It's been a world of difference the help I've gotten.»

He is looking forward to playing with the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid and is excited to wear #90 on the ice.

He would later thank Ken Holland and the organization for giving him another chance to keep his career going.

Perry has played 1,273 NHL games, with 421 goals and 471 assists, and has won a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks.
