Major turn of events strike Marc-Andre Fleury
In Marc-Andre Fleury's NHL journey, there's a new twist. The veteran goalie wants to stay with the Minnesota Wild, but there's talk about a possible trade.
General manager Bill Guerin might talk to Fleury before the March 8 deadline, even though Fleury wants to stick with the Wild. Rumors have been flying around, linking Fleury to teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, and Edmonton Oilers.
But Pierre LeBrun's update on TSN's Insider Trading changes things. It seems the Oilers might not be interested anymore. They trust their goalies, so they might not go after Fleury, leaving room for other teams.
«As they get closer to March 8, if it's clear that the Wild are out of the playoff hunt Fleury could potentially look at two or three teams. Among those options I'm told are the likes of the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, and the Maple Leafs. These may be obvious but, again, Fleury wants to stay loyal to the Wild if they can stay in the race.»
LeBrun's update shows how uncertain Fleury's future is. If the Wild don't look good for the playoffs, Fleury might look at offers from other teams. The Hurricanes, Avalanche, and Maple Leafs could be interested. Fleury wants to stay loyal to the Wild and keep playing with his teammates.
«Every year, when players' contracts come to an end, names of pending free agents always come up in the rumors to be on the move. For me, my team is Minnesota. We have such a good group of guys and great chemistry. I've been here for over two seasons. I'm not thinking about leaving or going somewhere else. I want to continue to fight with my team to try to make the postseason.»
Even though lots of teams want Fleury, he gets to decide where he goes. With a no-trade clause, it's up to him. Fleury's recent comments show he's sticking with the Wild and wants to keep fighting with his team.
