A new era about to dawn with the Hawks brings back memories.
The Blackhawks are about to begin a new era in their history by drafting first overall in this year's NHL draft. After a couple of seasons of misery, in finishing near the bottom. The Blackhawks selected Connor Bedard as their first overall choice.
Rebuilding this team is not new to the Blackhawks organization, as they have done this in the past when 2005 the team was in ruins. The team missed the playoffs for a few seasons, there was no hope on the horizon and the fan base was beginning to turn as many empty seats in the United centre were seen.
Ownership decided to make a shift and begin a new era where on June 22nd, 2007,
Patrick Kane was drafted first overall by the Blackhawks.
Before Kane's pick in 2006, the Blackhawks selected Jonathan Toews in the first round third overall. These two draft picks led to a core built and attract many players and stars to the team was awarded 3 Stanley Cups in 10 years.
Fast forward to 2023, general manager Kyle Davidson hopes that his design and construction of this roster will lead to the team rebounding back into the playoffs and a shot at another Stanley Cup. It all begins with setting down one block at a time, with Connor Bedard being that first piece of the foundation.
