After being caught stealing from the team, a veteran player has had his contract terminated
A two-time Gagarin Cup winner's contract has been terminated in the KHL.
He was a mainstay of the KHL for most of his career until he was demoted. Upon demoting, he would be assigned to the VHL, one of the minor leagues in Russia's professional hockey system.
Despite being one of the team's leading scorers, Krasnoyarsk Sokol decided to drop the winger today.
As a member of Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Potekhin won two Gargarin cups in 2014 and 2016. In 2010, he also won the Kharlamov Cup, the top prize in Russian Junior Hockey.
"...the management of the club playing in the All-Russian Hockey League ( VHL ) caught the striker stealing sticks from the team locker room. According to the source, the player was identified after the viewing of recordings from video cameras." - Sport24.ru
No explanation was given as to why the sticks were stolen from the team.
Tough break for a former KHL star.
