Blackhawks and Panthers Full Trade Breakdown For Defenseman Seth Jones

The Chicago Blackhawks and GM Kyle Davidson have honored Seth Jones' trade request, as he is now a Florida Panther.

The defenseman has been lobbying for a trade in the media, and slamming his team, earlier in the week.

His time here has been dissatisfying for himself, and fans who have been unhappy with his lack of consistent play in a Blackhawks uniform.

Now, he'll have a shot at a Stanley Cup with a contending team under Head Coach Paul Maurice.

The next time we see him, he'll be wearing a new crest and will not be so frosty as he is in Chicago.

The breakdown of the trade is this:

The Chicago Blackhawks will receive Goalie Spencer Knight. Knight was a former 13th overall pick in 2019 by the Florida Panthers. He's spent the majority of his career jumping between the AHL's Charlotte Checkers and the Florida Panthers, while he's never been able to put together a full season in the NHL.

This season the 23-year-old played 23 games for the Panthers, with a 12-8-1 record, 2.04 GAA, and a .907 save percentage.

His career NHL stats are 80 games played, a record of 44-25-7, 2.76 GAA, and a .906 save percentage. A stable backup in Florida who could find himself in a bigger role in Chicago.

The Blackhawks also received a 2026 1st-round pick in return for Seth Jones, and the team has sent a 2026 4th-round pick attached with the veteran defenseman.

To make the deal happen, the Blackhawks are retaining $2.5 million of his contract for the next five years.
